since TERROLOKAUST's "God Loves The Violence" have we sat patiently for so
long on an album that people in the industry have already been in advanced
stages of excitement about for months. Based solely on the strength of a
handful of demo tracks made available online, figures such as FADERHEAD
and Daniel Graves of AESTHETIC PERFECTION - neither renowned for being
easily impressed - have been prompted to publicly encourage people to
listen out for this record. Advance digital copies have been strategically
leaked and surreptitiously circulating among DJs for a few weeks, while we
wrapped up the final remixes and finished off the awe-inspiring
artwork...and now finally the day is at hand when we can publicly confirm
probably one of the worst-kept secrets in the scene - that many months ago
we signed one of the hottest new talents to emerge in recent years, in the
shape of Séamus Bradd's project THE.INVALID... As debut albums go, the 11
tracks of THE.INVALID's impressive "The Aesthetics Of Failure" would by
themselves represent a worthy investment of anyone's time and money -
described by multiple advance listeners as "a kind of combination of all
the best things about AESTHETIC PERFECTION, FADERHEAD and IMPERATIVE
REACTION", the tracks also demonstrate the kind of feel and programmed
power in simplicity that made NINE INCH NAILS “Pretty Hate Machine” an
instant hit and timeless classic. But of course this is DWA, so we didn't
stop here. Not since VPROJEKT's equally exquisite "Exhilarate &
Disgust" did we pull out all the stops on a 2CD edition for a "newcomer" -
but if ever an album and artist cried out for such special treatment, it
was THE.INVALID. And what a 2CD edition... An array of remixes sourced
from some of the most highly-regarded and innovative producers working in
the field of alternative electronica today - ranging from the witch house
of AAIMON and VALHALL, through the glitching of DYM and DIE SEKTOR, the
IDM of FRACTURED, VPROJEKT and ALTER DER RUINE to the dance beats of
GRENDEL and CYGNOSIC, among others... A veritable cornucopia of
creativity, augmented by the inclusion of no fewer than 4 additional
original tracks by THE.INVALID not included in the album itself. Mastered
in its 27-track (!) entirety by Kolja Trelle for an ultra-rich and smooth
bass-end, "The Aesthetics Of Failure (2CD Limited Edition)" is presented
in a sumptuous 6-panel digifile designed by DWA's lead artist Vlad
McNeally - in an eye-catching combination of rich red tones, sinister
screaming figures and (perhaps in tongue-in-cheek tribute to the presence
of VALHALL and AAIMON) the ubiquitous triangles which have become
synonymous with the witch house movement. "The Aesthetics Of Failure" is
an epic win on every artistic level - a true triumph of the will, and an
essential addition to every music collection this summer, strictly limited
