Called in a very classical way, "Il Gabinetto del Dottor Caligari" homages the title of a great and unrepeatable film, a milestone of the German Expressionist period of the early twentieth century. The use of strictly Italian lyrics, in a few sentences encloses all macabre, gothic and deadly “topos” of the writers of the nineteenth century horror literature. These lyrics recall very closely the artistic research of Italians literary movement so-called “scapigliatura”, in which the choice of romantic styles brought to excess, is united to a strong desecrating, grotesque charged with black humor. This clear plan of intent, brings the project to be an absolutely original idea within the panorama of Gothic music. In fact, starting from a simple sound base but from the usual Gothic atmosphere, coupled with an extremely melodic and theatrical voice, it is able to create harmonious and catchy ballads of easy listening but certainly not superficially usable. The result is the creation of a new sub-genre that we might call “gothic-kitsch”, between the sublime and the trash, between the cold-wave of the Frozen Autumn and the grotesque recitation of Lacrimosa, absolutely disorienting to the usual musical canons. Florilegio is a complete collection of all the songs produced by the author and contained in the only two tapes published in very few copies. 2 new songs, recorded in studio for other demos, have been added as bonus!
